bought these this afternoon, great pace and very clear. My only frustration is on this tutorial I don’t seem to have an orientation option parameter in the inheritance effectors panel when set to linear so I can’t really finish it off. I’m using 11.5 but it doesn’t seem to be in 10 either? Is there a preference or something I should change?

    • Tim
Tim On February 17, 2010 at 1:10 PM

If you don’t have the orientation option, then you could update to 11.530. Choose Help > Check for updates, then install the latest version.

If you don’t want to update, you can just rotate the effector. The falloff defaults to the Z axis so rotate the effector so the falloff is along the correct axis.

      Hope that helps

I’m having a problem with MOCAP tutorial. I imported an FBX file that I got from TurboSquid – but it has imported with joints so I converted the joints to bones but I lose the animation on the character.
Is there anyway I can keep this animation or transfer it onto the bones?

    • Tim
Tim On February 24, 2010 at 10:14 AM

      Hey Jake,

You should be able to just link the joints in the Tracer object instead of bones. Is there a problem doing it that way?

  23. Jake
Jake On February 24, 2010 at 11:10 AM

Thanks Tim – I tried that but I don’t get any splines from the tracer
    Any ideas?

  24. Jake
Jake On February 25, 2010 at 7:50 AM

Got it working – If I switch off traces vertices it makes the splines

  25. Marc Allen
Marc Allen On April 1, 2010 at 3:58 AM

    Hi Tim, Great tutorials; thanks!!!

But, I’m having the same issue as Jake, above; on the MoCap tutorial.

You mentioned, in the movie, that unchecking “Trace Vertices” rectifies the problem of not seeing the trace; but despite this, I can’t seem to. I’m using version 11.5 of C4D. The FBX file did bring in joints & not bones.

Also, on your version of the Shader Effector, when set to linear, you could define the orientation under “Offset”; mine didn’t have this option.

    Hope you can help.

Marc Allen On April 1, 2010 at 5:53 AM

I’ve just opened the project on my laptop & it works fine…I may have to reinstall C4D on my Mac maybe.

    Greatings Tim and Everyone

Hey Tim, i would like to know where could i get that skeleton FBX u used in the Mocap tutorial? Is this file for sale on turbosquid? if yes, can u please provide me with a link? Thanks in Advance

  29. Cool4D
    Cool4D On September 18, 2010 at 12:28 AM

Thanks for the link Tim, actualy i tried some of those ad was’t able to open them up in C4D 11.5. I will read back ur advice and try to make it work. However i was attracted by ur skeleton simply because of his look. The FBX files from Turbosquid looks so diferent but i guess i just need to learn more about FBX…Anyway, thanks for the help.

ps: I saw u had a new C4D course at FXPHD, is there any menu that show what its the course?

@Mauro Forgive me if I misunderstand you, but it appears you have used a pirated copy of my training and are asking for technical support. I’m sorry but I cannot help with your problem. If you would like to buy the training then I’d be happy to offer support.

@Didac If you purchased the training then please contact Motionworks with the email address you used to buy the product and we can resolve your problem. Sorry for the inconvenience, some people think it is ok to download copies of the training and then expect technical support so we have to check our database to ensure you are a legitimate customer. So please send an email and we will get back to you immediately. Thanks for understanding.

    Hey Tim,

Which MoGraph series would you recommend for someone at my level?

I feel like I have a strong grasp of it, but with a consistent fear that I am still mis-using the majority of its real power.

Essentially, I’m looking for an advanced course, would this be it?

    • admin
admin On March 6, 2015 at 9:49 AM

Hi, I’m not sure of your level but this is covers pretty much every aspect of MoGraph in one way or another. My dynamics training is also very comprehensive and covers a lot of MoGraph and some Xpresso too. For more all round training, try the Idents training which covers camera calibration, cloth and some basic rigging. Hope that helps?

Thats more than helpful, just waiting for my next invoice to drop and I’ll get one of them.

Arriving in Sydney next week, so if you have any crazy jobs coming, I’ll consider a special intro-“try me out”-rate – day rates appear a lot higher in the UK but I would happy to take a LARGE hit for the opportunity to work under your direction.

        cheers Tim!
