If you have been following the blog you will know that this is the third free tutorial from Ilir Beqiri and that what makes Ilir’s tutorials unique, is that they are subtitled, not spoken.
Sometime ago, Ilir was working on a project that required the building, setup and animation of a pop up book. Among the elements on that project was a 3D folding fan that popped up at the end on the animation. It took Ilir some time to figure out how to set up something like that but after much experimenting, he found a working solution. The setup that Ilir will show you in this video is slightly different from the original one, but it is much more flexible and predictable.
The order in which Ilir builds the scene might seem counter intuitive, but have faith, it’s for a good reason. It involves the use of Mograph objects, Xpresso, building, breaking up and rebuilding joint chains and setting up IK; there’s a bit of almost everything.
Ilir believes this to be a semi advanced tutorial, but believes there’s something for every user level to learn.
A note from Ilir: Do not hesitate to comment or ask me questions in the comments section. I hope you find the concepts useful and enjoy yourself as much as I did making this video.
