UberTracer2 is a spline network generator for Cinema 4D that provides many ways to control how you connect objects, geometry, particles and more!

UberTracer 2 is a Cinema 4D plugin that generates a network of splines based on distances between points of the input.

UberTracer2 is a Spline Generator

– Can be used as input for Sweep, Extrude, etc.
– Can render directly using Hair and Sketch & Toon.
– Also works as input for MoSpline.
 
 

Supported Input Types

– Editable Polygons and Splines
– Polygon and Spline Primitives (Sphere, make sure Render Perfect is unchecked.)
– Polygon and Spline Generator objects (Cloners, Fracture, MoSpline, etc.)
– Thinking Particle Groups (Accessed via Thinking Particles Settings…)
– Emitter Object (Show Objects enabled.)
– Nulls (incompatible objects like Cameras and Lights are treated as Nulls.)

Extra Options for Input Objects

– Objects in virtual hierarchies (such as Cloners) can be treated as separate objects.
– Can use the object’s axis instead of its geometry.
– Can choose to ignore Nulls in virtual hierarchies.
– Can choose to use terminal objects of a virtual hierarchy instead of all children.

Distance Thresholds

– Connections can be set to gradually break if they’re over or under the threshold distance, instead of simply disappearing.
– Different connector behaviors. Split and fade to endpoints, fade to midpoint, fade to first point, fade to second point.

– Supports Selection Tags and Vertex Maps. They can be used to control input clouds and final connector lengths. (Vertex Colors and Mograph Selections/Weightmaps currently not supported. I will try adding them for a point update.)
– With Thinking Particles, particle age can also be used to modify distance thresholds.

Connection Modes

– All – All objects will be used in one giant network.
– Each Object – Every object (or generator children) will only connect to itself.
– Other Objects – Every object (or generator children) will only connect to other objects.
– Group: A to B – Inputs are split to two groups, with group A connecting to group B.
– Sequence – Each object will connect to the next object in the sequence.
– Match Indexes – An object’s element will connect to the next object’s matching element.
– Polygon: Edges – For Objects with polygonal geometry. Each solid edge is considered a network connector; Ngon lines are ignored.

Inputs


Input Objects go in here. TP Particle Groups can also be used as inputs.

Warning: If Ubertracer is used as a child of a Generator Object, make sure that the Generator Object is not inside Ubertracer’s Inputs list. This may create a feedback loop and cause Cinema 4D to crash due to memory overrun. As a precaution, if Ubertracer is under one of its input objects, it will ignore that object. There are rare cases where you could still cause an infinite loop, so do be careful.
 
 

Read Axis / Object Points

Read Object Points : If the object contains splines/polygons, their points will be used for solving the network.
Read Axis : Only the object’s axis location is used for solving the network. If the generator has a virtual hierarchy, each child’s axis location will also be used.
 
 

Generator as Single / Multiple Objects

Generator as Single Object: The whole generator is treated as a single object, regardless of its virtual hierarchy.
Generator as Multiple Objects: If the generator has a virtual hierarchy, each child is treated as a separate object.
In All Elements, Group A to B and Polygon : Edges mode, this toggle has no effect.
 
 

Read / Ignore Nulls

Ignore Nulls: If the generator has a virtual hierarchy, null objects will be ignored.
If the input object itself is a Null, it will always be used regardless of the toggle.
 
 

Use Generator’s Full Hierarchy / Tips Only

Full Hierarchy: The whole generator is used.
Tips Only: If the generator has a virtual hierarchy, only terminal children are used. Any intermediate children are ignored.
In All Elements, Group A to B and Polygon : Edges mode, this toggle has no effect.
 
 

Object Belongs to Group A/B

Sets the object to either Group A or Group B.
This toggle only has an effect in Group A to B mode.

CONNECTION MODE

 

All Elements

All points from the inputs will be connected to each other.
Warning: This is usually the slowest mode. Avoid using input objects with too many points, unless you really have to.

Each Object

Each object will only connect to its own points.
If you only have one input object, this mode behaves exactly like “All Elements”.

Other Objects

An object’s points will connect to other objects.
This mode needs at least two objects, or at least one generator with multiple virtual children.

Group A to B

Every point in Group A will be connected to every point in Group B.
This mode needs at least two objects, with at least one object in “Group A” and another in “Group B”.

Sequence : Open

Each object will connect to the next object in the list. First and last object will also connect to each other
This mode needs at least two objects, or at least one generator with multiple virtual children.

Sequence : Closed

Each object will connect to the next object in the list.
This mode needs at least two objects, or at least one generator with multiple virtual children. With only two objects, this mode behaves exactly like “Sequence : Open”

Each element’s point will be paired with the next element’s matching point.
This mode needs at least two objects, or at least one generator with multiple virtual children.

Polygon : Edges

Each polygon edge is used as a network pair. Hidden edges are still used. NGon edges are ignored.
This mode only works on polygon objects (Primitives/Generators/Editable Poly.) Spheres with “Render Perfect” enabled do not render; remember to disable it first.

Distance thresholds. Defines whether connections are solid, or if they should fade out.
 
 

Global Space

If enabled, generated network will line up with inputs, regardless of Ubertracer’s position.
This adds a small amount of calculation overhead. Disabling it may slightly improve framerates.
