It’s well worth checking out, they cover the various plugins available and the pros and cons of each. There’s an interview with the master himself, John Knoll. Plenty of great information to get your teeth into. This is only the first part too. So check back for more detailed info on the effects mentioned.
Originally there was Knoll Lens Flare Pro. This evolved into Knoll Light Factory, it’s been a few years since it was updated, the Red Giant team recently released the latest version of Knoll Light Factory. A big update too, they fixed up the archaic GUI and added some great (awesome) new features.
I’ve found the latest Knoll Light Factory to be very stable, no crashes so far. If you’ve used Magic Bullet Looks then you will be familiar with the interface, presets on the left, components on the right. So it’s pretty quick to choose a preset and then add your own touch.
I also use Video Copilot Optical Flares which is a fantastic plugin. I think it is more snappy when previewing the effect than KLF, but I’ve found it to be a little unstable too. I wish they’d update it and make it a bit more reliable as it has some fantastic features.
The other lens flare effects they discuss are part of complete packages, I haven’t tried them. If you need a comprehensive set of effects then these may be a better option for you.
To top it all off. Toolfarm are offering a discount code to celebrate. So if you’re looking to buy any of these plugins then use the code FLARES2012 and you will receive a 5% discount.
